Wrapped Fabric Wreath Tutorial
* This wreath is for sale in my etsy store*
Here are the instructions for making the wrapped fabric wreaths. I use the leftover strips of batting and fabric from my quilts after they have been quilted and squared up. However, it is just as easy to cut strips out of fabric you want to use. It's easier to wrap smaller wreaths with strips that are approximately 2 inches wide. Larger wreaths can be wrapped with wider strips of fabric. The look of your wreath will also be dictated by the pattern on your fabric.
The supplies you need are:
1. A styrofoam wreath form. I like the 10 to 12 inch sizes.
2. Strips of batting and fabric anywhere from 2 inches to 4 inches wide.
3. Glue and straight pins.
4. Ribbon to hang your finished wreath.
Start by wrapping your wreath with batting overlapping it slightly to cover the wreath form completely. The batting has a bit of stretch to it and should stay in place but use some glue or straight pins to secure the batting if you choose.
Secure the batting once the wreath is completely covered, using glue or straight pins.
Start wrapping your fabric around the wreath in the same manner as the batting, overlapping the edges slightly. The idea of this wreath is to show the raw edges of the fabric and the pattern of the print. The final look of the wreath can be adjusted by how the fabric is wrapped - close together or father apart.
Continue wrapping until the batting is completely covered and you like the look of your wreath. I like to double wrap the wreath at the finish point. It secures the beginning and end point and also gives a nice look to the wreath where I put my ribbon.
Fold your fabric under itself and glue to finish. The straight pins help secure the fabric while the glue is drying.
Trim up the fabric edges if there are any strings. Tie your ribbon and hang the wreath.
Making these wreaths are a great way to use up leftover fabric and coordinate with a quilt or othe fabric project such as a table runner.
